Kolkata, where the past whispers through its streets and the present dances to its heritage, stands as a vibrant confluence of history and culture. Born from the villages of Sutanoti, Gobindopur, and Kalikata, it has grown into a tapestry of grandeur, resilience, and creativity. The Hooghly River cradles its origin, while Chowringhee and Park Street echo colonial elegance and modern vibrancy. The Babu Culture and Kolkata’s Art Movement reflect intellectual and artistic fervor. Football unites its people with passionate rivalries, while historic political moments shape its identity. Architectural marvels like St. Paul’s Cathedral, Writers’ Building, and Howrah Bridge narrate tales of diverse epochs. The Victoria Memorial blends history with daily life.
The Concept: Theme Puja is a creative take on traditional Durga Puja, centering on a unifying theme that influences the decor, idol design, and overall ambiance. This approach transforms the festival into an immersive artistic experience, showcasing religious devotion alongside cultural and artistic creativity.
Themes can range from environmental conservation and folklore to contemporary societal issues and abstract art. Planning begins months in advance with brainstorming, sketches, and models. This collaborative effort strengthens community bonds and unites diverse talents to create a cohesive and impactful celebration.

Inception: In 2023, Trinayani celebrated Durga Puja with a theme inspired by Nichindpur from Satyajit Ray’s “Pather Panchali.” The decorations captured the simplicity of rural Bengal as portrayed by Bibhutibhushan and Satyajit Ray, infused with the artistic style of Jamini Roy. At the celebration’s heart was a handcrafted idol, reflecting Jamini Roy’s minimalist elegance, created by Trinayani members in the US. This continued Trinayani’s tradition, following their 2022 milestone of crafting their own idol entirely by their members.
